Aeolian Mode: Interactive Piano & Guitar Reference with Chords
🎨 A visual piano and guitar reference to the Aeolian mode, which is the same
as the
natural minor scale. The
Aeolian mode is the 6th mode of the major scale.
The Aeolian mode is created from the major scale by
flattening the 3rd, 6th and 7th scale degrees.
The reason why we have a mode like Aeolian that is the same as the natural
minor scale, and hence two ways to name the same thing, is because modes came
before scales. Scales were therefore derived from the modes.
This reference includes the notes and chords on the piano keyboard for each
key of the Aeolian mode.
Aeolian mode formula:
1 - 2 - b3 - 4 - 5 - b6 -
b7
Aeolian Mode: Reference Table
First, a reference table for the Aeolian mode for all the keys. The keys are in order of 5ths, as with the circle of fifths. This illustrates the close relationship between keys that are a 5th distance apart.
